Anowa Antwi is a 23 year old Ghanaian-American DJ on hiatus, currently struggling with agoraphobia. She is an anxious daydreamer, who is artistic, playful, rebellious, and carries a strong sense of justice. She loves music and food, and stims by having her favorite song on repeat. She loves bringing people together, but has a hard time with social interactions, so music and DJing help her do that. Anowa recently graduated from university with a degree in Graphic Design during the pandemic, and is currently taking a gap year to figure out what she wants to do. After scheduling a pick me up hair appointment with her old friend Etinosa, Anowa decides to venture out and reconnect with her community, starting with a visit to the Old World Market. She likes expressing herself through her accessories and hairstyles. She typically plays afrobeats, amapiano, house, bounce, r&b and hip-hop when she deejays.

Etinosa Adewale is a 23 year old Nigerian-American, who aspires to be a famous hair stylist. She is a social butterfly, your personal hype-woman, meticulous, and loves to tell a good story. She wants to create a space for her clients to come and destress, talk, and have a quick service, with versatile styles to choose from. She hopes to open her own salon one day in Chicago. Etinosa went to elementary school with Anowa since pre-school. They were close friends who did a lot together, but eventually grew apart and went to different schools. Etinosa has a lot of passion for creating new and bold hairstyles, and she herself is a very stylish person. Etinosa is throwing a party, and has hired a DJ who eventually cancels on her. After talking with Anowa during her hair appointment, Etinosa tells her what happened, and Anowa offers to replace the DJ herself.

Anowa at age 11, loves to draw, make playlists, and play DJ Hero. She likes being with her friends, drawing them fake tattoos, trading lunches and snacks, and having long phone calls. Anowa is more outwardly open with people and lets her personality shine. She has anxiety still but it hasn’t reached its height yet. She learns dances in her bedroom, and plays Dance Central in front of her parents. At this age, Anowa is becoming more aware of some difficulties she experiences in the classroom. She is an overachiever masking concentration difficulties, executive dysfunction, and becoming nonverbal. She loves to visit Montrose Beach and collect shells, swim, and eat ice cream from the paletero cart.

St.Mary’s of the Lake doesn’t allow certain hairstyles like colored braids, but she’ll still try to push their limits and her creativity. Etinosa likes hanging out with her friends, and in particular Anowa, encouraging her come out of her shell when appropriate. Etinosa thinks critically and is often challenging her school’s teachings in the name of advocating for herself or another. She likes to dance and keeps on trend by learning the latest dances to show off at school.

Mrs. Ofori-Antwi is a 48 year old Ghanaian-American immigrant, who moved to the United States in 1997 with her husband and daughter Anowa. Mrs. Ofori-Antwi is sweet, kind, patient, and creative as she loves to sew, paint, and design her own clothes. She wants to support her daughter and make sure she has the right resources for her to access if needed. Mrs. Ofori-Antwi wants to see her daughter overcome her fears and is cheering her on. She loves spending time with her family and making people smile. She hates loud, abrupt noises, but likes listening to her favorite songs on repeat like Anowa.

Maaliyah (32) can't seem to stay out of news for better or (mostly) worse. After her last incident in the public eye, Maaliyah fired her entire pr team and sought out new management, aka Chloe Williams at Sunshine PR. She hates poor people, her "obsessive fans", and most of all -- anyone who tries to tell her she's wrong.

Chloe Williams (26) is constantly juggling different personas. Career climber, “responsible” daughter, pilates master, PR Queen, and code switch extraordinaire are just to name a few. DEF has major anxiety because of this.
